A discussion followed concerning fire district and fire company procedures of communication. It was agreed that in matters concerning the Fire company, everything will go through the Chief and he in turn, will pass it on to the squad captains.

Margaret Wolff and Wolf Merk made the motion to accept the report and it was carried.

First Responders Report:

Pat Schultz reported that they have received the Hepatitis B shot record.

The 1st responders drilled with the Cooperstown squad and Rich Carr, Matt Lionetti and Patty Schultz took part in a mass casualty drill.

Patty is scheduling first responder coverage at the First Aid booth at the county Fair in Morris in August.

The status of the vests was requested and advised by Rich Carr that they have been received.

There was no meeting on July 4th.

The 1st responders squad report was accepted after a motion by Wolf Merk and Mark Weir.

Fire Police Report:

Marvin Mulford is pleased with the turn out at the drills and everything if fine.

Ed Kukenberger and Wolf Merk made a motion to accept the report and passed.

Auxiliary Report:

Donna Mulford reported the pancake breakfast is being planned.

A calendar is in the works and if anyone has contributions to it, please call Donna or Pat Gambitta.

Wolf Merk and Margaret Wolff made the motion to accept and passed.

Other reports:

Trash pickup is on Monday and it must look like trash! Place all items in clear plastic bags so it is identifiable as trash.

The 2000 gallon tanker that is available from the Franklin Fire Department was discussed.

Marvin Mulford noted, as a life-time truck driver, he was impressed with the truck when it was here at the fire hall for inspection. It has all kinds of horsepower. The wheel base is great and it unloads from the end and 2 sides. He feels it should be driven only by qualified truck drivers.

Alan Thayer and Rich Carr looked at it last month and 2000 gallons seems to be the right size. The engine has 77 hundred miles on it.

George Hymas feels we need a tanker and the only negative with this particular truck is that it is not automatic.

Chief Thayer felt that if we had a tanker we would be called out more often on mutual aid.

Brand new tankers start at 175 thousand dollars.

Rich noted that when we have 2 feet of ice it is okay to drill for water but the problems arise when there is ice but not thick enough to walk on.

Mark Weir agreed a tanker is needed and Rich mentioned we have to make a decision that is best for us.

Margaret Wolff made a motion to form a committee to investigate tankers. This was second by Wolf Merk and carried. The committee will include Chief Thayer, Assistant Chief George Hymas, Company Engineer, Ed Kukenberger, Marvin Mulford and Adam Kantor and Margaret Wolff.

Margaret Wolf made a motion to table the paving issue until a decision about the tanker is made. Second by Ed Kukenberger and carried.

Grants:

Margaret Wolff reported that the grant from Assemblyman McGee is still in the works. The state is fourteen weeks behind in processing grants. If we buy any equipment now and submit bills, we will not have to wait the 14 weeks.

The list of items was reviewed and Mark Suggested the back board be paid for by the first responders. The other items on the list included interior Fire Fighter gear, radios, microphones, air packs, Storz couplings and $1,000 to be allocated by the chief by June!

A motion by Margaret Wolff and second by Ed Kukenberger to purchase the items was accepted.

Extrication equipment and materials was discussed. Josh Kantor will get a price on a sawzall and the step cribbing will be made with 2 X 6 wood.

Physicals and license background checks will be reviewed.

Old Business:

Margaret Wolff informed everyone the Pernat/Colby suit in small claims court is scheduled for Tuesday, July 24th, at 5:00 in Oneonta Town Court.

Andrew Marietta is working on obtaining the 501 c (3) designation.

The Dry hydrant grant is stalled. Rich Carr suggested residents consider putting some in on their own. A permit from the DEC must be issued for any hydrant installed along a state highway.

New Business:

Ed Kukenberger mentioned that Joe Potrikus has parking for the Hall of Fame Game and wanted to know if anyone was interested in selling soda and water. The auxiliary will look into this.

Comments:

Mark Weir wanted particulars on the Hartwick Parade; it is the County Fireman’s convention and will be August 18th.

The attorney is still working on recovery of the stolen memorabilia. He needs a list and pictures of the missing items. He also needs the video and tapes of the meeting George Chandler stated he took them.

Margaret Wolff made a motion to adjourn, second by Ed Kukenberger and carried at 9:05 PM

Respectfully Submitted

Claire Kepner
